Directors’ Night

Directors of the Iranian cinema came together on May 6 to have a heart-to-heart talk for the first time. The session was organized by the Iranian Cinema Directors Association.
  Alireza Raeisian, chairman of the central council of the association, said the goal of the “Director’s Night” ceremony was to review status of directors in the Iranian cinema industry. During the ceremony, tributes were paid to three prominent Iranian directors
  from three generations: Shapour Gharib, Kiyanoush Ayyari, and Asghar Farhadi. They received their awards from Sirous Alvand, Kioumars Pourahmad, and Kamal Tabrizi. Shapour Gharib was director of pre-revolution bestsellers who has been marginalized during the past 20 years. Kiyanoush Ayyari has been directing The Times of Gharib (on the life of Dr. Mohammad Gharib, a renowned Iranian physician) for the past five years while Asghar Farhadi is making his fourth feature film after directing Wednesday Fireworks.
