Expansion and Prosperity

Now you can see many familiar faces that have been frequenting Tehran film market from various parts of the world. Most of them consider the market as the best in the region because of the importance of the Iranian cinema in the world and successful transactions conducted by international film distribution and production companies. In this year’s market, the number of Iranian and international participants had increased and the market seemed to have developed. The film market which was attended just by a few Iranian companies at the beginning. Now, in the second decade of its life, the market covers several halls each housing many stands. The number of screenings at the market is so high that it seems participants should move directly from airplane seats to theater seats! You can lounge at either of two theaters from 09:00 to 21:00 and watch the best products of the Iranian cinema. What place would be more suitable for those who are interested in the Iranian cinema?

This year’s market was attended by 61 foreign companies and 35 Iranian ones. About 140 active members of the Iranian cinema and 160 foreign guests from overseas companies were also present. Amir Esfandiyari, who was in charge of the Iranian film market for the 11th straight year, said, “The Iranian film market is the biggest of its kind in the whole region and according to statistics, this year’s market has been much more prosperous than preceding years both in terms of participants and connections. Many foreign companies embarked on purchasing Iranian films and good connections were established between international companies at the market. Due to its powerful cultural backdrop, the Iranian cinema is considered a major advantage for Fajr International Film Festival and its film market and has turned it into a special market with special attractions. The Iranian film market has found its position at international level and has attained its deserved status.”
